Plastics firm Macro-Will Plastic Engineering (UK) Ltd has signed a £50,000 contract to supply protective film to a company in Macclesfield.
Macro-Will, which has its origins in China, began trading in China in 2003 when entrepreneur Michael Wei decided to use his experience in the extrusion industry to set up his own business.
However, last year the firm decided to open a UK branch with a new office in Manchester and Matthew Wassall, Sales Manager, has been working to build the UK company from scratch since he was appointed in November.
“The past six months have been a hard slog, setting up the business structure and speaking to potential clients so I am delighted that work is starting to come to fruition,” he admitted.
“We recently signed a contract to supply plastic protective film to a manufacturing firm in Macclesfield as well as a second, separate contract to supply rubber haul off pads to a firm in Birmingham,” he continued.
“In addition we are looking to gain another two accounts by the end of the year and hit the £1million turnover mark as quickly as possible so, while it has been a good start, the hard work isn’t over yet.”
Macro-Will came to Manchester via SinoVentures in the UK, an inward investment initiative which offered business support to Chinese high tech companies wishing to establish a presence in the UK.
Under the scheme, Macro-Will was initially based for one year at Manchester International Innovation Centre (MIIC), a soft landing facility based at Manchester Science Park. The firm confirmed its commitment to the North West by becoming a full tenant on Manchester Science Park in June.
