Manchester Science Festival 2010

Following on from 2009’s most successful festival to date, Manchester Science Festival is back and promises an even more exciting programme for 2010. The Festival has hundreds of events happening all over Greater Manchester and, as sponsors, we would encourage you to go to as many as possible. However, we have selected two highlights to give you a taste of what the festival has to offer:

Science Junkies live show

We get told that science is all around us… but what about halfway up a huge cliff, or free falling from 10,000 feet? Jumping from building to building or cycling through an alpine pass? Science is in even the most extreme of sports. In fact, it is even more important in these high adrenaline, action packed adventures. See how risky rock climbing really is and what it’s like to fall at terminal velocity through the earth’s thin atmosphere. Join us on a tour of these adventure sports and the science behind them. Maybe you too will become a Science Junkie!

Date & time:                 Sun 31st October 2pm - 3pm

Venue:                          Zion Arts Centre

Audience:                     Family 11+

Stefan’s Extraordinary Kitchen

A wild workshop of culinary adventure and extraordinary food science. Stefan Gates, author of The Extraordinary Cookbook and presenter of BBC2’s E Numbers: An Edible Adventure, shows how to make Ribena caviar, vegetable instruments, and explains how (and why) to cook with gold and smoke fish in a chocolate tin.

Date & time:                    Sat 30th October 7pm

Venue:                             MOSI (Museum of Science and Industry)

Audience:                       Adults
